Looking back!

We've been learning about genre in Literacy! This week we learned about some of the fiction and nonfiction genres and completed a scavenger hunt and a Book Tasting. Students will be bringing home their Independent Reading Logs from the month of September to share with you. We've been working on choosing a longer, grade 4 chapter book, committing to reading it and sustaining independent reading for up to 20 minutes. Students have been filling out their reading logs as an accountability activity.

We are learning about Waste in our World in Science. This week we identified types of waste and started to talk about how to safely dispose of some items.

Looking ahead!

Students Writing Offices are coming home today! Each month I like to send your child's journal home so you can see what we've been working on in writing. This month our I Can Statement is: I can write independently! Please feel free to write an encouraging note to your child in their notebook. Thank you for sending them back to school for Wednesday, October 1.

Students have a Name Research Interview to share with you. Please return on Wednesday, October 1.

There is no school for students on Monday, September 29 for a Professional Development Day. Tuesday is The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and there is no school for students.

We start our Alien Inline residency on Thursday, October 2. Please ensure that your child is dressed comfortably for the days we will be skating. It's a great idea to have an extra pair of tall socks on those days. Students also require a helmet. Acceptable helmets include: bicycle helmets, hockey helmets (no cage), skateboard helmets, ski/snowboard helmets. We will be skating on Thursday, October 2, Monday, October 6, Tuesday, October 7, Thursday, October 9 and Tuesday, October 14.

Gym will be outside for the duration of the inline skating residency. We have gym first thing in the morning and it is chilly! Please dress for the weather!

See Mr. van Sluys' blog for the inline schedule.

Smile! Picture Day is Wednesday, October 8.

Finish Up!

It's been a busy week in Grade Four and some students have a substantial amount of Finish Up. We've had several conversations about using our class time wisely and making good choices so we can complete our learning tasks. Please complete and return Finish Up to school.
